30 April 2012, marked the completion of NHS Lothian’s new £43.6 million Royal Victoria Building, Scotland’s first acute hospital unit with 100 per cent single rooms. The building has been constructed on the site of the former Paderewski Building, at the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh.

Thomson Gray have been involved with the project as Cost Advisors and CDM Co-ordinators since it’s inception in 2008 and are pleased to confirm the project has been delivered on time and on budget.

The new state-of-the-art facility has been designed to provide high quality healthcare services to meet the needs of elderly, rheumatology and dermatology patients.

Thomson Gray Director John McKaig who has been involved with the project from the initial stages through to completion said:

“The Royal Victoria Building serves to demonstrate that NHS projects of this nature can be delivered on time and critically within the budget targets set by a financially restricted client thanks to the hard work of all the members of the construction and delivery teams. Our focus was always to ensure the most prudent expenditure of public money and to provide the best value for money for NHS Lothian. The importance of this project to the patients will be immeasurable, and we at Thomson Gray have been proud to have been a part of it.”

Ron Thomson has retired as Managing Director with effect from 30 April 2012.

Ron was instrumental in developing and growing the company from its inception in 2004. His fun loving nature, extrovert personality and insightful intellect will be missed. In the interim period he will retain a connection with the practice and act in a consultancy capacity in order to provide continuity on various projects.

I am extremely grateful for the support that has been given to Ron and myself over the past 8 years. In conjunction with my fellow directors James Gibson, John McKaig and Rod Shaw on the technical side together with Sharon Roberton providing administrative support. I hope to build and develop the business further.

Stuart G Gray
Managing Director
