It has just been confirmed that over £100,000 was raised for children in Scotland and beyond from the Tartan Army Childrens Charity Kilt Walk which took place on Sunday 18 April 2010.

Stuart Gray from Thomson Gray took part in the walk accompanied by a friend. The 26 mile walk started at Hampden Park and finished at the Loch Lomond National Trust HQ in Balloch. The walk started with a 2 mile march down to the Clyde accompanied by a piper and with a police escort whilst the remaining 24 miles followed the Sustrans pathways out to Loch Lomond.

Despite a lack of training Stuart was pleased to have completed the walk in 8 hours with no blisters (just extremely sore legs). It was however well worth it as he managed to raise £775 for the charity thanks to contributions from clients, colleagues, family and friends.

More details on the walk and work of the TACC can be found on their website (http://www.tartanarmychildrenscharity.org.uk/main/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=85:kiltwalk-2010&catid=49&Itemid=1030)

The Building Awards took place in Grosvenor House Hotel on Thursday 22 April. The directors of Thomson Gray attended en-masse in anticipation of scooping the award for UK Construction Consultant / Surveyor (fewer than 100 staff) of the year. Unfortunately, and dismissing the option for a Steward’s Enquiry, it was not to be – however we took much satisfaction from achieving a place in the final six shortlist, and providing Scotland’s only representation in the category.

Apart from raising the profile of the practice, and grabbing the attention of 1,300 industry professionals at the awards dinner, the exercise has been full of positives; to have the quality and commitment of Thomson Gray recognised in such exalted company has given the team a major boost, and to have been graciously commended by clients and fellow professionals in our quest for the award is immensely gratifying.

We are still a relatively new business, operating in one of the most difficult markets in decades, our acceptance by our peers as one of the top six QS / Surveying practices in the UK, has only improved our determination to continuously improve, provide even better value, and deliver specific solutions to particular challenges (Oh, and to put and even bigger ‘bung’ in the brown envelope next year!!)

June 2010 will mark the 6th year of Thomson Gray, and we are delighted that over that period, the business has developed and grown, and currently has a staff complement of 20. We are immensely fortunate to have a client base which has supported and encouraged us from our inception, and professional colleagues throughout the industry who have also played a significant part in our progress. As we look to sustain and build on what has been achieved to date, we very much look forward to continuing on this exciting and fascinating journey. We are currently one of 6 shortlisted finalists for Building magazine’s UK Construction Consultant/Surveyor of the Year (fewer than 100 staff), and await the result on 22 April with eager anticipation.

After 6 years, we feel it is time to give our corporate image a makeover, and we have updated the ‘look’ of our business. This e-mail gives some idea of our new identity, and we hope that you like the changes we have made.
