National Treatment Centre – Fife Orthopaedics opens

06/06/23

The new National Treatment Centre – Fife Orthopaedics at the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy has opened.

As the number of people in Fife that require orthopaedic interventions, such as hip or knee replacements, rises there was pressure on the Orthopaedic service to provide more sophisticated elective surgery to meet the increase in demand.

The new build facility is over three floors and is designed to be welcoming, accessible and easy to use for staff, patients and visitors to navigate. The arrangement of each department allows for patient privacy and dignity by separating into public and private routes. This also provides the opportunity for the Centre to be adaptable and flexible and allows for future expansion, if required.

The Centre houses an orthopaedic outpatient department and consulting rooms on the ground floor, a ward and short stay unit providing 33 patient bedrooms on the second floor and a 3-theatre surgical complex and recovery area on the top floor with an adjacent staff area. There is a therapeutic garden as well as green spaces incorporated in the design.

Thomson Gray provided project manager and business case services from inception - including Initial Agreement (IA), Outline Business Case (OBC) and Full Business Case (FBC) reports on behalf of NHS Fife.
