New Renal Dialysis Unit at the Western General Hospital

A new renal dialysis unit has been completed for NHS Lothian as part of a wider programme of works at the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh.

Thomson Gray provided project management, cost management, NEC3 supervisor and clerk of works services as part of a wider appointment on the programme of works at the hospital.

The new unit provides 12 dialysis stations and associated clinical support accommodation within the 2-storey building. The building was constructed on a gap site between the existing Ward 1 and SHSC Buildings at the Western and replaces the existing ageing modular Renal dialysis unit.

The unit connects into the new district heating system currently being installed at the Western to help meet the Scottish Government’s 2040 sustainability targets. The project was developed in close consultation with clinical staff, patient stakeholders and a variety of key NHS Lothian stakeholders.
