Well not quite everybody, just young Calvin Barron!
Calvin is an 8-year-old from Kirkliston, who represents the Lee Matthews British Military Martial Arts Club, at Almondvale, Livingston. Despite only starting to compete at kickboxing competitively last year, under his instructor Brian Fernie, Calvin has progressed to a level where he has finished runner-up in two National Kickboxing Competitions. He was also invited to train with two different Scotland squads, which he does twice a month for 3 hours a session. The training takes place at different venues across Scotland and Calvin does this as well as continuing to train with his own club.
He has now been asked to represent Scotland at the World Championships in both Worcester, 4 – 7 October 2018 (for WUMA World Union of Martial Arts, Team Scotland) and in Rome, 1 – 4 November (for WKA, World Kickboxing & Karate Association). Whilst this is a great honour it does come with an added cost.
Thomson Gray are delighted to be able to provide some sponsorship to help support Calvin in his bid to land a world title. Stuart Gray, Managing Director commented, “It is a credit to the hard work and commitment that Calvin puts into his sport that he is now competing for his country and we wish him all the best”.
