Edinburgh Zoo Giraffe Enclosure
The new giraffe enclosure at Edinburgh Zoo has recently been completed and occupied by five Nubian giraffes.
Thomson Gray provided quantity surveyor services to the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) for the new giraffe house, which includes a large paddock and elevated viewing walkways for improved visitor access and feeding and care of the giraffes by staff.
The enclosure has been built of robust materials including concrete walls, steel frame, aluminium cladding, heavy duty fencing and fittings.
The wildlife conservation charity’s RZSS WildGenes lab will be supporting wild giraffe conservation by using genetics to help the Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF) understand the success of reintroductions across Uganda. GCF works with governments, universities, local communities, national and international conservation organisations, and many other bodies, to develop and implement conservation strategies to save giraffes in Africa.
