A regional director with over 40 years’ experience in the construction industry, John oversees our offices in Inverness and Aberdeen. He has a proven track record in successfully delivering bespoke, complex public and private sector projects – and joined Thomson Gray in 2024.

With project management experience of more than 20 years, in various sectors, John has led multidisciplinary design teams and managed stakeholder engagement for major higher education projects as well as important, high profile culture projects.

Before joining Thomson Gray, as project director for V&A Dundee from 2011 to 2018, John was responsible for complex stakeholder and design team management, as reporting to all funding organisations and contract administration.

He was project director for Dunard Concert Hall in Edinburgh from 2019 to 2023 – a challenging major culture project within a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is located amongst multiple Category A listed buildings.

Prior to becoming a project manager, John was an architect for 20 years and worked on a range of projects including commercial, residential, higher education, building conservation and refurbishment.

John studied at the University of Dundee, where he gained an honours degree in architecture. He has a diploma in Environmental Geography and has been a chartered member of the Royal Institute of British Architects and Royal Institute of Architects Scotland.
