Thomson Gray again feature in Building Magazine’s Top 200 Consultants survey. We are currently ranked 174th, a move up of 25 places from last year. As well as the main survey Thomson Gray are ranked 52nd in the Top 100 financial performers and 53rd in the Top 100 fastest growing companies.

New appointment – Stuart Deans

Thomson Gray are delighted to confirm the appointment of Stuart Deans as Principal CDM Co-ordinator. Stuart supplements the existing Health & Safety team and has previously worked for WS Atkins and Summers Inman. Stuart brings a wealth of experience in both CDM and Occupational Health & Safety to the practice.

Melrose Hospice Project

We recently secured Cost Advisor and CDM Co-ordinator appointments for the new Margaret Kerr Unit at the Borders General Hospital. The project, procured using the Health Facilities Scotland National Framework, but funded through charitable donations and fundraising will create the Borders first inpatient palliative care unit.

The £4.0m facility will comprise a remodelled ward and a purpose build single storey extension, together with associated car parking and landscaping. Construction is expected to commence in the spring of 2012 with the unit opening in early 2013.

Official Opening of Tweedbank Primary School Extension

Thomson Gray surveyor Mike Steel was delighted to attend the official opening of the new extension at Tweedbank Primary School, rubbing shoulders with Lords and Councillors no less.

The £1 million works were handed over by Border Construction ahead of time and have been very well received by staff, pupils and the community.

The extension features a range of sustainable sustainable and environmentally friendly materials, including sedum roof, goat hair carpet (a favourite fact of the pupils) and a new energy efficient heating system throughout the existing building, leading to it being awarded a green flag as an Eco-School.

Successful appointment for Office upgrade works at Edinburgh International Festival Centre

Thomson Gray have been appointed to be part of the design team to deliver the office upgrade works required to the existing office premises of the Edinburgh Festival at Castlehill in Edinburgh.

The upgrade works themselves are to install a new heating system, upgrade of the existing glazing system and a general redecoration works. The project is extremely fast-track with a critical aim being able to complete the works in advance of the client’s intensive workload increase as the International Festival approaches.

A further key aspect being to ensure that the building remains operational throughout the construction period.

Further Framework Success

Continued success on the Health Facilities Scotland National Framework saw us securing the Cost Advisor and CDM Co-ordinator roles on the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service’s new £50m facility at Riccarton. The practice has now secured 13 seperate projects on the framework and in the last week were appointed by HFS to compile a Cost Analysis / Benchmarking database which will bring together cost and market intelligence from projects which are / will be procured under the very successful Frameworks initiative.

Board Restructure

In order to meet our ongoing business objectives for 2011 Thomson Gray have restructured their executive board. With effect from 1 March 2011 Ron Thomson will assume the position of Managing Director and Stuart Gray will take on the role of Senior Director and Company Secretary.

As part of the board restructure John McKaig and Rod Shaw will assume responsibility for our new office in Melrose.
